Sit back, relax and watch films at ActOne Cinema

Keen to check out the latest films locally, from a cinema created by volunteers within the community? IndieBloom are proud to present to you, ActOne Cinema.

The Big Picture

Based in the heart of Acton, West London and opened in early October 2021, ActOne Cinema allows locals to be within reach of services, essentials and entertainment within a 15 minute radius.

The ActOne Cinema is a new community cinema for Acton, with a 60 seat auditorium fully equipped with the latest digital cinema technology.

The film programme brings you the latest quality independent films, world cinema, documentaries, film festivals and film-maker events, and the occasional quality blockbuster.

Sharing its values and character along with being co-run by the team behind the Rio Cinema in Dalston, London. If you haven’t already, do check out ActOne Cinema’s About Us with further information - everyone is taken care of.

Lights, camera, action!

Plans for 2022 are for a second screen to be made with the help of the community along with still accepting volunteering tasks (which involve welcoming, answering questions and showing off the building to visitors, meeting and greeting film goers, promotion of the cinema in the community, among other roles). Currently, there is Chiswick Theatre Arts on Saturday mornings offering musical theatre classes, street dance classes with the Society Dance Academy, while the Café Bar serves Bears Ice Cream, a family based indie business repping Acton 🙌🍨🍦

ActOne Cinema and Bears Ice Cream - the perfect combo

Also on offer is the Parent & Baby Club (‘gives parents the chance to visit the cinema without them worrying about causing a disturbance or having to find a sitter for their babies. The auditorium is brighter than usual, and there is a secure space for pushchairs.’), Kids Club (‘The best kids and family films, every weekend!’) and Relaxed Screenings (Autism Friendly) which provide ‘no-judgement, sensory-friendly, monthly screenings will benefit audiences with additional needs, such as autistic and neurodivergent people, people living with dementia, their carers and loved ones, or anyone who would simply enjoy a more relaxed visit to the cinema.‘ A thoughtful touch.

With coverage, recognition and shout-outs from popular film critic Mark Kermode (who also narrated the above video) and Acton resident, MBE, MBA and entrepreneur Jamal Edwards (who recently passed away In February, with ActOne Cinema keeping his legacy alive by showing his favourite film, Training Day, in which the proceeds go to his charity, JE Delve). Plus being covered by the well known Time Out online, the opening has definitely been a landmark and attraction in Acton.
